PUPPY FOUNDATION COURSE

10 days after their second vaccination, puppies can start training and being socialised. Socialisation and very basic obedience training are undertaken in the puppy class, and progress can then be made to higher levels.

Each session is structured to provide obedience training at different levels of ability.

The training provided is based on the reward method, approved by the Kennel Club, and should lead to most dogs undertaking the Good Citizen Tests (Bronze, Silver, and Gold), a scheme introduced by the Kennel Club to promote responsible dog owners together with basically well-trained and well-socialised dogs.

BRONZE

Bronze dotThe Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze Award aims to produce a dog that will walk and behave in a controlled manner on the lead, will stay in one position on command, and will allow its owner to clean, groom, and inspect it, as well as help the dog to walk and behave in a happy, natural manner, under control on the lead. The dog must also be able to be positioned by its handler for inspection, i.e. stand, sit, or lie down on either its side or its back, all on the lead. The dog must come to hand when called. The Bronze Award aims to provide the handlers with a basic knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion.

SILVER

Silver dotThe Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Silver Award aims to build upon the skills learned in the Bronze Award while increasing the level of difficulty. The Silver Award is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts such as the controlled greeting, road walk, and vehicle control exercises, which are important in everyday life situations. The Silver Award aims to provide handlers with a good knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion.

GOLD

Gold dotThe Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Gold Award is the highest level of achievement for the scheme. It builds upon the skills learned in the Silver Award and develops more advanced training skills for the dog and handler. The Gold Award is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts such as relaxed isolation, stopping the dog, and sending the dog to bed exercises, which are important in everyday life situations. The Gold Award aims to provide handlers with greater knowledge and understanding of their canine companion.

RESPONSIBILITY & CARE

Accompanies all levels of the Scheme and educates owners about their responsibilities to their dogs and the community.

TRAINING BENEFITS

Dog training provides numerous benefits to both the dog and the owner. If you own a dog, you naturally understand his basic needs for food, water, and medical care. Nowadays, training is widely accepted as another need for dogs that is almost as important as their other needs.
